Georges BLANCHARD -- L’Imprimerie d’Ottawa, c. 1930

New January 29, 2008:

Good morning:
My email this morning was rejected … so I’m trying again. Your site does say that
my research and surname interests will be posted. Looking for information on
L’Imprimerie d’Ottawa prior to and during the Great Depression, as well as names of
civil servants working at Ottawa Printing Bureau between 1922-1928. Suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.
D.Dufour (née Blanchard).

Hello, Denise:

Apparently there was a problem with my e-mail system yesterday morning. I didn't
receive your e-mail but did receive a copy of it from Jean-Claude Dubé who replied to you.

Here is your original e-mail and two replies -- one from Jean-Claude Dubé and another
from Allen Craig:

From Denise:
I just happened to be searching for information re L’Imprimerie d’Ottawa around
1921-1928 and noticed this site full of historical information. I’m searching info
re my grand-father Georges Blanchard from Montréal, he disappeared around 1928.
I wondered if a list of employees exist for l’Imprimerie covering that period
(my only lead). Not even sure if it’s the correct name for l’Imprimerie ? It is all
my father could recall before his passing. He lived in lower town around York and
Murray Street. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in order to continue
my search.Thank you.

From Jean-Claude:
Bonjour Mme Dufour

From Allen Craig:
Hello Denise,

I don't know if this will help or not but you can download the 1923 City of Ottawa
directory from archive.org at this link

http://www.archive.org/details/ottawadirec192300midiuoft

Your grandfather might be listed in the alphabetical section, if he is there, the
entry would typically give his occupation and residence.

Beyond that the best advice I can give is for you to follow Jean-Claude's suggestion
regarding public service employment records.

Good luck with your research

and more from Denise:
Goodmorning Al, with regards to setting up a new web page for my grandfather, Georges
Blanchard, date of birth unknown … I would like to start by checking the Notre Dame
Church records and see if in fact my grand-mother remarried. Gratia Bertrand (1890-1974)
married Napoléon D’Aoust (1886-1918) the 27th of Feb.1911 in Ottawa and had four
children. On my father’s admission card to St. Joseph's Orphanage it does say that his
father’s name is Georges as well. My father recalled or was told most likely that his
father came from Montréal, had 2-3 sisters only and worked at L’Imprimerie in Lower
Town Ottawa and that his grandfather was a judge in Montréal. I need to check further.
Please thank Allen on my behalf, unfortunately my grandfather was not listed
in 1923 city directory.
