James BROWN and Jean WALLACE

The late Mr. Robert Sample compiled a very large database of early families in Goulbourn and surrounding townships.
One of the families which he researched was the family of James Brown and Jean Wallace who came from Rutherglen, Scotland, in 1828.

1.  JAMES1 BROWN was born 1797 in Came to Canada From Rutherglen, Scotland in 1828  (Hannah Family History), 1985 edition., and died 1874.  
He married JEAN WALLACE February 5, 1819, daughter of ANDREW WALLACE and ELLEN FULTON.  She was born January 7, 1802 in Came to Canada in 
1828 From Scotland  Hannah Family History, 1985 edition., and died June 26, 1892.

2.  ROBERT WALLACE2 BROWN (JAMES1) was born June 5, 1830 in Born in Canada Hannah Family History 1985 edition.  
Farmed in North Gower Twp. near the town of Kars, Carleton Co. Ontario., and died March 20, 1919 in Robert and Children all farmed in
North Gower Twp, Carleton Co. Ontario..  He married REBECCA PETTAPIECE April 11, 1854 in Ontario, daughter of JOHN PETTAPIECE and ANN FERGUSON.  
She was born March 15, 1832 in Came to Canada in 1832. Hannah Family History, 1985 edition.  See 'More', and died April 12, 1915.

Notes for ROBERT WALLACE BROWN:
A skilled weaver he hand made the sturdy woollen tweed that the family wore summer and winter.  The wool came from their own sheep, 
carded and spun into wool on the farm.

Very late in life Robert and Rebecca decided to come West.  Around 1910 when they were almost 80, they and two of their sons homesteaded 
around Nanton, Alberta.  After some time they returned to North Gower where they retired.

Came to Canada the year that she was born and is listed in the Upper Canada census fo the same year.  
Rebecca  had 4 brothers and 2 sisters all born in Canada.

Notes for SAMUEL MCCOY HANNA(H):
An 1863 Walling Map of Carelton Co. shows that R. Hannah, Jas. Cassidy and S. Hannah shared lot 11 on the 1st. concession line 
of Goulbourn Township.

An 1879 map of Goulbourn twp. shows the same lot divided between Saml. Hanna Sr., Saml Hanna Jr., and R. Hanna.  
Note:  the final "h" has been dropped.

Later, Samuel made a trip out west and again in the spring of 1902 when he brought along his wife, Margaret Jane, and 13 children 
to take out a homestead 10 miles south east of Rouleau, Sask.  They took 3 seats on the train, and initially stayed at Wallace's. 
Later in July of that year, Samuel bought the property of Alf Pettapiece which became the family farm.  This was the NW/4 of 
the same section Jim was on.
