Patrick BURKE and Martha McGARVEY
from Ireland and Scotland to Gloucester Township
March 15, 2005:
Hello my name is Jeannie and I have researched my line back to Patrick Burke and
Martha Mcgarvey (Mcgarvil). They were married in Paisley Scotland where Martha I
believe was born, Patrick was from Ireland...where ????? April 29, 1854 Married.
Daughter Margaret was born Oct 22, 1857 in Scotland
They lived in Ottawa area for all of their adult lives and had many children
Their first born daughter Margaret was my maternal great grandmother. They appear
on the 1871 census and Patrick was a farmer Other children listed were Martha age
11, Maria age 9, Patrick age 5, May age 3, Rose Ann born May 1870 They lived outside
the Ottawa area in a place called Russell or what was once called Billings Bridge.
First born son was John in England. 1855/56, daughter Elizabeth was born 1873 and
son Edward was born 1875. I believe Edward was also called Ned. (I have a picture
of him). Son Patrick had a middle name of Ambrose and married an Elizabeth Crites in 1886.
Patrick Burke (father) died in 1906 at age 77 in Junction Gore Gloucester and only
indicated he was from County Armagh. Martha wife dies in 1903 and I believe Edward Burke
was the informant.
Their daughter Margaret married Joseph Hughes in Cyrville in 1875.
