Carroll DALY and Bridget McCARTHY
County Cork to Farrelton, Quebec

New May 20, 2005:

Hi,

I found your email address and information on Richard Daley when I did a search
for Farrellton, Quebec.
I've been researching my great, great grandfather Carroll Daly who was born in
County Cork, Ireland and lived in Quebec. My research shows he died in on July 4, 1884
and is buried in Farrellton, Quebec. His wife was Bridgid McCarthy and she died in
1904 and is also buried in Farrellton. Their son, Carroll Daly was born in Canada
(maybe Farrellton) in 1856 and died in 1892 and is believed to be buried in Superior,
Wisconsin, USA. There seems to be a name change from Daly to Daley with my grandfather
Carl Daley who was born in Superior and is buried there as well.
I have never been to Farrellton and do not have any further info about these
relatives and their connection to Quebec and County Cork but I'd like to find out more.
I noticed history on Richard Daley when I searched for Farrellton and figured there
must be a tie somehow. If you have any information on this please contact me.

Much appreciated,

Norbert Daley Nix

Al, please add my email name to the list.
Also, I'm wondering if you know of any way to search death records in Farrellton
for that time period to see if I can locate Carroll Daly or his wife Bridgid McCarthy.
I saw that there is the Ottawa library...just wondering where to start.

Thanks,
Norbert Daley Nix

Hi Norbert:

I found the marriage record for your ancestors:

6 Oct 1845
After dispensing with banns, marriage of Carroll Daly, adult son of Eugene Daly
and Mary Driscoll of County Cork, to Bridget McCarthy, adult daughter of
Timothy McCarthy and Margaret Pigeon of County Cork
Witnesses: Patrick Mullens & John Hayes

This marriage was recorded in the registers of Notre Dame Cathedral in downtown Ottawa.
Thanks to Ellen Paul for this information.

Incidentally, there was at least one Eugene Daly, some Driscolls and Hayes families
on adjacent farms in the Farrelton area in the 1880's.

I'm not sure about the death records on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River.
There is a branch of the Quebec Archives in Gatineau, Quebec which is just across
the Ottawa River from the City of Ottawa. I've heard that they are very good but
don't have an e-mail address for them. (Maybe someone else has it)?
It's probable that your ancestors attended St. Camillus Church in Farrelton.

If so, there may be records of the family there. The Mormon Church in Utah has
microfilmed most of the old church records and they have Family History Centers
in all of the states. You can order the microfilm to be sent to your local FHC or
maybe to your local library if they have a microfilm reader. Their web address is
www.familysearch.org It can be time consuming to go through these records, but they
are pretty interesting.
