Patrick DERVIN and Catherine DOOLEY
(Patrick was from County Roscommon)
also, the DUBREUILLE / DUBROY pioneer family in Nepean
July 9, 2003:
Hello My name is Francis Dervin. I was born and raised in the Fallowfield - Richmond area.
I remember well the Fogarty family of St Patrick's parish; George, Simon,
Andrew, RoseAnn, Mary (Minnie) and Katie. Also two of my father's brothers married
Fogarty girls from that area.Patrick Dervin married a Fogarty girl(a sister of Terrence)
circa 1885 and moved to San Francisco where he was a haberdasher. John Dervin
(referenced earlier) Muriel's father married Rose Fogarty who lived to ripe age of
105 years. I would love to find more with respect to Patrick Dervin's descendants
in Sin Francisco. He was said to have had five girls, so the Dervin name expired.

There are other Dervins on the William Kennedy page.

July 11, 2003:
Hello Al. Pleased to receive your e-mail. I of course am a grandson of Patrick
Dervin (aka Dervian) and Catherine Dooley. Patrick Dervin came from County Roscommon.
My best knowledge is that he was born 1830 and came to Canada in 1854. A younger brother
James came out in 1848 and married Ellen Kennedy also from Ireland. However their
children died during the diptheria epidemic and thus there are no descents. I was born and
raised on the Dooley homestead (Richmond Road) in fact I still own a part of that Lot.
My information on the Dooley's is complete with the exception of Ellen Dooley (Catherine's sister).
Information I have is that she married Moses Thibideau (see below ... Al) of Ottawa, but I have been
unable to find any descendants or any other information. I would be terribly pleased
if you might know of anybody who might have any knowledge of her. The spelling of Thibideau
may not be accurate. My father Martin Dervin died in 1936 so I dont recall
much information from that source.
Thanks again fot replying.

Good Morning Mr. Dervin:
Thanks for your latest e-mail.
I had a look through the registers of St. Philips at Richmond. There are lots
of Dooley's recorded there.
I'll see if I can find Ellen.
I've also located the Dooley and Dervin farms on the 1879 Nepean map. There were
two Dervin farms (spelled DARVAN on the map) - one owned by Patrick and another,
next door, owned by James.
I think that the Dooley family may be related to my Burns ancestors in Osgoode.
Here's the first mention of the Dooley family at St. Philip's.
4 December 1836, Baptism of Margaret, born 14 November 1836, legitimate daughter
of Thomas Dooley and Catharine Quinn. The sponsors were Ambrose Madden and Jane Hart.
Do you know where these Dooley's came from in Ireland?

May 25, 2008:
I saw your emails on the internet and I am the great granddaughter to Mary Ellen Dunn
(Dubreuille) and I currently live in Oregon, USA.
Mary Ellen Dunn (maiden name Dubreuille) is the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann (Tierney)
from Nepean. She died in 1892 and is now buried in Corvallis Oregon at Mt. Union Cemetary
next to my Great Grandfather. She married my Great Grandfather James Warren Dunn who was
later killed in the line of duty in 1904 as a Corvallis Oregon Sheriff. Mary Ellen and
James had three children together. I have been trying to reseach the Dubreulle side of the
family but could not find any information.
One final note - Charles and an Eliza Dubreuille (spelled as DuBruille) are buried next to
James and Mary Ellen Dunn in Mt. Union Cememtary as well. There are also two children of
Margaret Ann buried as well.
Let me know if you have a history or need additional information.

Hi Sandra:
Thanks for your e-mail regarding your Dubreuille ancestors.
The Dubreuille family was one of the early French Canadian families to settle among the
Irish Catholic families who pioneered in the Richmond / Fallowfield area of what is now the
City of Ottawa, Canada.
Some of the 21st century descendants here now spell their surname as "Dubroy".
There are a lot of records for this family in the registers of St. Philip's RC Church in
Richmond. They married into many of the early families in this area.
Our search engine near the top of our main page at www.bytown.net will probably lead to
other references to the Dubreuilles.
Is it OK with you if I add your e-mail to our web site as a contact for other family
researchers? Please let me know.
You will probably be hearing from other researchers of your family.
Thanks again for this.
