Robert FARRELL and Jane UNKNOWN
Ireland to the Gatineau Valley, Lower Canada

New February 5, 2008:

My family of Farrell's appears on the 1851 census in Hull, Ottawa County, Canada East
(Quebec). Some information we have points to births in Chelsea, Quebec. Robert
Farrell, b. c. 1804 Ireland seems to have died the year the census was taken. His
wife Jane is shown also to have been born in Ireland, c. 1808. In this census were
four children all listed as have been born in Canada, Robert c. 1831, Eliza c. 1837,
William c. 1840 and Richard c. 1843. Since this predates the 1867 Confederation would "Canada" have been primarily what is know Quebec? or is it too nebulous to know?

Would love to chat with anyone having Farrell or Sheehan links in this vicinity.

Greetings,

I was browsing Al's site again and found reference to the A. G. Pittaway photographic
studio on Sparks St. in Ottawa. I am attaching another photo from this studio, this
one of William H. Farrell and Susannah E. Lett. This photo is said to have been
taken as a wedding portrait. They were married 16 Jun 1894 at Chalmers United Church,
Ottawa.

If anyone knows whether the above mentioned church still exists, I would be interested
in learning where it is located and perhaps obtain an address.

Warm regards,

Jane A. Garoutte

Jane:
This church is now called Dominion Chalmers United Church. It is located on
O'Connor Street, about five blocks south of our Parliament Buildings in
downtown Ottawa. The United Church of Canada is the largest Protestant denomination
in Canada today. It was formed in 1925 ("Church Union") by combining parts of the
Methodist and Presbyterian churches. See the History of Dominion Chalmers United Church.
