Patrick FINN and Bridget NOLAN
County Wexford, Ireland to Gloucester Township
July 13, 2007:
Here's another possible family from the border area of Counties Wexford, Wicklow
and Carlow. There were Finns in Bytown as early as 1829 but some of them came
from the Cork / Tipperary area of Ireland.
Does anyone know if the following FINN family came from Wexford, Wicklow or Carlow?
30 Mar 1832
Baptism of Bridget, daughter to William Nolan and Elizabeth Tobin
Godparents: Moses Doyle (County Wexford) and Anna Finley
14 Nov 1844
After one publication of banns, marriage of Thomas Hutchingame of Bytown, adult
son of Thomas Hinchingame and Mary Redmond, to Joanna Fynn / Finn of Gloucester,
adult daughter of Anthony Fynn and Elizabeth Hays / Hayes
Godparents: Anthony Finn and Elizabeth Hayes (above)
Godparents: James & Bridget Fynn & Robert Pilon
7 Jun 1851
Baptism of Anthony, son of Patrick Finn and Bridget Nolan of Bytown
Godparents: Michael Nowlan & Mary Dunney (Dunn, Lunney or Durning?)
(Bridget, born 1832 is daughter of William Nolan. The newborn Anthony is the
grandson of )
16 Oct 1852
Baptism of James, born 13 October of the marriage of Patrick Finn and Bridget
Nolan of Bytown
Godparents: James Finn & Elizabeth Nolan

July 19, 2007:
Good afternoon all, for what its worth, [ re 1881 census ] John Finn and his
wife Ellen Jane Gorman farmed on land where the License Bureau stands to-day on
Heron road ,I remember when it was known as Finn Dairy , where they sold milk on
the streets of OTTAWA. Walkley road split the farm, there were 3 boys and one
girl in that family . when the farm was sold , one son bought the Nolan farm on
the Manotick Station road. In speaking to a daughter and son-law, the Finns came
from County Wexford .

Hi Al:
I thought the attached 1852 baptism of Charles Whelan was interesting. Parents were
Matthew Whelan and Margaret Etchingam (Hutchingame?), godfather was William Finn
and Godmother was Mary Donahue.
We've identified a Thomas Hutchingame's wife Johanna Finn (d/o Anthony Finn and
Elizabeth Hayes, Gloucester) as b. Wicklow, and I wondered if this William was her
brother.

Re my last email, Al, I think this is the 1851 census page for the FINN family that
Johanna Finn Hutchingame came from. Patrick Finn's son is called Anthony, like their
father.
Attached is the funeral register of another child of the Whelan/Etchingham couple, and
witnesses were Patrick Finn and James Finn.

Hi again, Al,
More on this subject: I saw this little space on a page on B or B:
7 Jun 1851
Baptism of Anthony, son of Patrick Finn and Bridget Nolan of Bytown
Godparents: Michael Nowlan & Mary Dunney (Dunn, Lunney or Durning?)
(Bridget, born 1832 is daughter of William Nolan. The newborn Anthony is the
grandson of -----------------)
The missing name is, I believe, Anthony Fynn from the ND marriage record below,
also taken from B or B:
14 Nov Thomas Hunchingham? of Bytown, son of Thomas Hutchingame and Mary
Redmond, to Johanna Fynn of Gloucester, daughter of Anthony Fynn and
Elizabeth Hays. (note: Anthony Fynn died the next day, 15 Nov and
his funeral service was held the 18th)
Johanna Finn, d/o Anthony, was b. Wicklow, according to her death cert.
