Tribute to Major ALLAN FRASER of Fitzroy Township,
Carleton County, Ontario, Canada, in 1893
January 13, 2012:
Dear Sirs,
I found your genealogy site through Google. I am trying to find a good home for the document in the photos that I have
attached to this email. I am from Amherst, Ohio (near Lake Erie) and hope that you can help me. I am a clerk in our local
town hall and also enjoy genealogy. I was recently at an estate sale in town and found this document. In case you can't
read it, it is thanking a "Major Allan Fraser" for his service to Fitzroy Township as a reeve, for his military service,
and also for his business dealings. It is beautifully written. Mr. Fraser was heading for California, USA, according to
the document, and this proclamation was wishing him well also. It is signed by the then current reeve, Charles Mohr, the clerk, WR Taylor,
and Matthew Riddell who was the treasurer. It also was signed by some County Carleton leaders. Then, there are some Canadian
military leaders who signed it...hard to make out those names...maybe Macpherson, Powell, and Irwin. It is dated 26th April 1893.
It is in relatively good shape and the colors are beautiful along with the calligraphy.
I don't want any money for it..I just want to find it a good, proper home! I went on Ancestry.com and tried to find descendants of
Major Allan Fraser in California with no luck. I will ship it to you or perhaps deliver it...we have friends in Ottawa..we love Canada!
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Sincerely,
Linda Turley
Note: I think that this document should be offered to our National Archives (Library and Archives Canada). They would
be in the best position to recommend the best place for it to be housed.
