June 20, 2003:
Hello Mitchell and Al,
I am interested in knowing where you found the info on Patrick Hammill (1791-1875).
I have just begun doing family research on my father's side and don't have
a whole lot of info at this time. What I do know is:
My Great-Grandmother, Annie Hammill, was born 1873/74, in Nepean Township,
Carleton County. She married Joseph Hunter, date unknown. She died in October 1896,
giving birth to my grandmother Lilian May and her twin brother, name unknown. Annie
Hammill is said to be buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fallowfield.
I am hoping there is a connection between Patrick Hammill and my ggrandmother Annie.
Any info you can give me, or any pointers you may have, will be greatly appreciated.
I plan to visit St. Pat's Cemetary tomorrow to look for gravestones and hopefully
talk to someone in the church offices.
Thank you!
Laurie

Mitchell -
I was so interested to be directed to the Hammill page on the Bytown website.
My great grandfather was Owen Hammill, my grandparents were Thomas Hammill and
Julia Ann O'Grady. I have been working on the family tree for awhile and have
been trying to find more information on the siblings of Owen. Do you mind if I
ask where you obtained the information shown on the website? I have been able to
get some information from the records at St. Patrick's in Fallowfield, from the
O'Grady Family Tree, from census records and from the Church of the Latter Day
Saints. For example, the death registration for Patrick Hammill showed that his
place of birth was County Tyrone, Ireland. Do you have additional information
on the Hammills or could you refer me to a source that would have it? Thank you
in advance for any information you may have.

and from Mitchell:
Hello Sheila,
I gathered the information from a number of places, including census records,
local cemetery records and local church records (St Pat's Fallowfield in particular).
I didn't record where I got all the information, but I believe I had also pulled
some information from other O'Grady and Hammill websites.
While I don't have any additional information on the Hammill's, I do have
additional information on the O'Grady's. Specifically, where you indicate your
grandmother was Julia Ann O'Grady, I have some information back to the great
grandparents of Julia. I also have some additional information on the ancestor's
of Sarah O'Grady who was the wife of Owen Hammill. I'm not sure how much
information you have on the O'grady's, but according to my records, Thomas Hammill
and Julia Ann O'Grady were actually third cousins, with the common connection where
they had the same great grandparents which which were John O'Grady and Hanora O'Meara.
If you don't have the history on the O'Grady's I can send you what I have.

Hi Mitchell -
I have the information on the O'Grady's that is in the O'Grady Family Tree that
was created by Preston O'Grady. It was updated as recently as June 2005 and I
downloaded a copy to review it for changes since the last version. So, I do have
quite a lot of information there. If you have anything over and above that, I
would be interested in seeing it. Are there any other Hammill websites that you
could refer me to, i.e., other than the Bytown "Patrick Hammill and Catherine Muldoon"
(which has already been enormously helpful) ?
I still have not completely finished reviewing the St. Phillip's register file
but it was very interesting to learn (Thank you Al for the e-mails) that Owen's
sister Catherine married Michael Murphy and had a child Michael James in 1861, and
to learn the baptismal date and sponsors for Francis, son of Owen and Sarah.
Thank you very much for everything.
... Sheila
