
HAWTHORN, Hans (b. 1801, Down, Ireland) and wife, Sarah Ward (b. 1808, Down, Ireland), arrived in Carleton Place in 1842 from County Down, Ireland with their children: Thomas (b. 1830, Killinchy, Down), Hans II (1837, b. at sea between Ireland and Scotland), Samuel (b. 1839, Barony, Lanark, Scotland), Sarah (b. 1840, Barony, Lanark, Scotland) and had Agnes (b. 1842, Carleton Place) and Margaret (b. 1847, Carleton Place). In 1850, Hans and his family moved to Greenock Twp, Bruce County, Ontario. HAWTHORNE, Patrick (b. 1815, Down, Ireland) and Selena Downey (b. 1816, Down, Ireland) arrived in Carleton Place in 1847 from County Down, Ireland newly wed. Patrick was the younger brother of Hans. He and his family settled in Goulbourn Twp eventually. They had the following children: William John (1847), George Charles (1849), Eliza Jane (1852), Thomas (1855), Archibald Cameron (1860), Annie (1870) There was another brother who came over from Down with Patrick, but we haven't determined who he was as of yet.
