My g-grandfather George Bell was born in Fitzroy township in 1844. His 
parents were Jeremiah Bell & Frances Elliott who about 1850 moved on to 
homestead in Bruce county.. I have been searching for these two people for a 
long time. Both Jeremiah & Frances were born in Ireland. Jeremiah in approx 
1808 and frances approx 1814. I am Canadian but now live in Boston. I went to 
Fitzroy harbour this past weekend & remember passing thriufg Galetta. I 
visited the cemeteries in the harbour but could find no Bell's or Elliotts. 
Is there a graveyard in Galeta that I should check? Is there a good book any where 
that explans why the Irish came to the Ottawa valley? Was it to build the Rideau canal 
or was it the lumber industry? 

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
