* Catherine McGEE's husband, John FINAN was killed in a fire. Catherine had 4 children
with John, and on his death married Patrick CHRISTOPHER (Lot 7, Con. 4, Osgoode),
s/o my Great-Great Grandparents, Patrick CHRISTOPHER and Mary FITZGERALD.
Here's (another) John Finan:
Hi Al,
My name is Howard Finan and I live in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
My great-grandfather came to Bytown in 1852 after a career in the British Army.
His name was John Finan and he was born in Bandon Co., Cork, Ireland on Sept. 15,
1811. His wife Sarah Corbett was born in Westmeath, Ireland in 1822. They were
married in Dublin in april, 1843. My Grandfather was George Finan and he was born
in Bytown on Dec. 5, 1855. The family's home was near or on parliament hill (but I
can't find proof of that). In 1857 John purchased a 200 acre farm near Renfrew. John
and Sarah had ten children but only three boys. Henry (photographer in Renfrew)
died at age 29 in 1891. Another son John moved to Quebec and died in 1912
(he had several sons) and the other son was my grandfather George.
Now that I have bored you I was wondering if you could help me in my search.
First do you know where I can get a copy of John Finan's will? Next who would
I contact about vital statistics (eg. causes of death, marriage dates and locations).
Thanks for your help.
Howard Finan

When Catherine McGee married my Great Uncle Patrick Christopher, she severed 40 acres
of Lot 7, Concession IV for her ex-brother-in-law, Christopher FINAN. Patrick and
Catherine retained the north 160 acres (Belden 1879).
Here is the family of Christopher FINAN (spelled FYAN in the 1881 Census):

Funeral service for Bernard Finnan / Finan? who died yesterday, aged 8 mos.,
son of Thomas Finnan and Catherine Kearny of Bytown
Witnesses: Thomas Byrne / Burns & Joseph Magee / McGee
Note: There also were families called FENNING, FAGAN and FORAN in the immediate
neighbourhood and it's easy to get them all mixed up in the handwriting of the
1800's. Again, Mike Daley is the expert.
