John JOHNSTON
Royal Artillery, Retired 1832
Gloucester Township

New March 24, 2004:

Al,

An early resident, John Johnston was Barracks Seargent for the Royal Artillery (mil) in Bytown
when he retired in 1832 and received land in Gloucester Twp. His son, James, married
Jane Baillie but I have never been able to find a record of the marriage.

Do you know of any sources of Free Church or Presbyterian marriages other than
St. Andrews? I searched it and found baptismal records for John's son.

Any information on the Royal Artillery in Bytown would be appreciated as well.
Also the NA seems to have lost what they had on the Bytown Militia formed in 1837-38,
but I know John was part of this unit.
