John KELLY and Johanna CLEAR
County Carlow to the Gatineau Valley

New May 14, 2004:

Dear Al - I am looking for any information on the KELLY Family of Low,
Quebec.

My great-grandfather, John KELLY emigrated from County Carlow between 1869
and 1871, bringing his two oldest children with him( possibly Mary Ann and
Peter) . His wife Johanna (CLEAR) followed later. The other children may
have come about 1873.
John was born about 1831 in Killane, Ballon, County Carlow. He died aged 44,
January 19, 1875 and was buried on January 21, 1875 in the Cemetery of St.
Camillus, Farrelton, Quebec. Four of his children are also buried there -
they all died within two days of each other and were buried in 1873 -
Peter - 12; Thomas - 8; Ellen - 4; and Maria -2. They were listed as " from
Low, up the road a bit.". I believe they died during a diptheria epidemic.
Maria was born in 1871 , perhaps in Canada, she was about 2 when she died.
The other three were all born in Killane, Ballon, County Carlow.
John's wife, Johanna, was born about 1831 in Bagenalstown, County Carlow,
Ireland. I do not know when she died or where she is buried; I do not think
she is in St. Camillus Cemetery - the record was searched to 1891.
The other two children are 1) Patrick (my grand-father) b. January 23, 1863
(probably) or September 15, 1865 (1902 census) in Killane, Ballon, County
Carlow, Ireland. He emigrated in 1873 (1902 census); he died November 26,
1910, in either Montreal or Mattawa, Ontario. He is buried in St. Anne's
Cemetery, Mattawa, Ontario.
and 2) Johanna, b. June 01, 1873 in Low, Quebec, d. April 19, 1950, Lorraine
Valley, Cobalt, Ontario.
There may also be a daughter Mary Ann, b. April 09, 1859, Killane, Ballon,
County Carlow, Ireland. I can find no trace of her. She may have married a
Charles Dooley or Doyle..
If anyone has any information on this KELLY family, I would really
appreciate it, because I don't know where to look next.
Thanks
Inez Allen
