September 12, 2002:
Al,
Just looking over your website and I see there is a Byrne family. My Gr Gr Grandmother
was Jane Byrne married to a John Leavy. They lived in Pakenham, Ontario, Canada.
Also my Gr Gr Grandfather Bernard Keegan and his wife Mary Morris, lived in or
around Pakenham. He had a son named Michael, who located in North Dakota, USA, which was
my Grandfather. I am wondering if there is any connection between the Mary Keegan
in Iowa and our Keegan's? I know that Bernard came from Ireland, but I don't know
where. Please contact me at my email address which is:

Note:
There are some records of the LEAVY family at St. Michael's at Corkery. Presumably
most of the records for this family would be at St. Mary's in Almonte or St. Peter's
in Pakenham.
In most cases, the surname is spelled LEVI, LEVEY and LEAVEY in the old records.
Here's an example (Source: Births registered at St. Michael's RC Parish, Huntley Township):
Power, Thomas
Son of Power, Morris and Russell, Allis
was born on 6/12/1842
Godparents: Levi, John & Levi, Jane (nee Byrne)
and from the book Ottawa Valley Village, Pakenham, 1860-1900 by Verna Ross McGiffin:

James Leavey

Al
Thank you for the information on the Levi's. I do have a lot of the Levi
history but nothing on Jane Byrne, who I am most interested in. Do you know
where I can find information on that side of the family?
I was also happy to hear my Great Grandfather, Bernard Keegan, owned land in
Pakenham. Could you give me any more information on how I can follow up on that?
I am a little confused on the entry Power, Thomas. Was he a relative of my
Great Grandmother Mary Morris Keegan? (probably a friend / neighbour).
I am going to try to contact St Mary's in Almonte, and see if I can find any
records for the Keegan's or Morris.
Any information you have , will be most helpful.
Thanks,
Donnie

Hi,
I’m responding to your posting (along with Donnie) that I found online. This is
just a test message to see if your email works. My gr-gr-grandparents were John
Leavy and Jane Byrne.
Thanks,
Robin Leavy

Hi Al,
Thanks for responding. Mostly I was wondering if you have any photos for John Levi
and Jane Byrne. I have one that I got from my cousin Lois, who got it from her father.
We are descended from John>John>Michael Francis>.
Are you acquainted, perhaps, with my cousin (“our” cousin) Linda Stephens? She’s
done a very good job on Levi genealogy starting with the generation before John and
Jane. She doesn’t like to publish her info on the web, and I agree, as she says that
“genealogy is not an exact science” and the information is constantly evolving.
Thanks for any help you might give, and I guess it would be fine to add my name and
email to a contacts list on your webpage. By the way, the one for Donnie doesn’t
work any more.
Thanks again,
Robin Leavy

Thanks to Robin for this great picture of John William Levi and Jane Byrne:
and for this picture of John Levi II and Mary Ferry:
July 30, 2007:
The Levi's have a North American reunion every two years. There is a good
family tree that is available as well. I have a picture of James Bond's tombstone
as well. The Bond's are buried in the White Lake cemetery where my family is buried.
The early Levi / Leavy / Levy are all buried in the Pakenham cemetery. I have many
artifacts as well.
We have not been able to find the Byrne background yet. The Leavy church in Ireland
(County Longford) has been destroyed so that is a shame.
