March 2, 2012:
Hi Al,
I have some folks who settled briefly in Sherrington, Quebec, in the Eastern Townships, a bit of a stretch from
Bytown.
I am at a distinct disadvantage here as I do not speak or read French, but will share what little I have found.
Sherrington usually comes up on the web as Saint Patrice-de-Sherrington, Monteregie, QC, CANADA. The coordinates
are 45* 10' N, 73* 31' W, approximately 25 miles south of Montreal. On modern maps it shows Sherrington and
Saint Patrice-de-Sherrington a short distance apart, I do not know the difference. Maybe Sherrington is the
town and St Patrice de Sherrington the larger surronding area. It became a village on July 1, 1855. I could
not find any historical maps or barely any history. It is a French speaking town.
I found a listing for a cemetery, Cimetiere de St Patrice de Sherrington, Catholic on rt. 219, .2 mile north
of Rue Pinsonneault.
One page stated it was called Lathom at one time. There was a railroad station there called Hughes Station.
On the web site "The English Settlers of Lacolle, Quebec" there is a paragraph about Sherrington history,
centered around St. James the Apostle Anglican Church. I have downloaded a painting from that site "The
Saint James Church Ruins" by Laura Elizabeth Keddy.
My geneaology is not complete and dates have not been verified yet and differ slightly in different accounts,
but I thought I would share what I have, as we never know what tomorrow will bring.
My sources are: my private geneaology files.

Robert and Bridget left Sherrington in 1843 for Shoreham, Vermont, then to Moriah, Essex Co. New York where
the children were raised. Much of the clan eventually ended up in Iowa (Avoca, Pottawanie Co.) after the Civil
War.
Stories of James, Thomas and Robert can be found at the above mentioned web sites.
There were 11 children, I've seen these 8 mentioned so far, and they are NOT in order of their birth. I'm
sure my aunt Gloria has them all in her geneaology, but that will have to wait until I make contact.

At one point in time, there were many Irish in Sherrington.
Children shown of these unions are NOT in order of birth, and I have only given vitals to my direct line.
The town of Peach, Washington, USA, where my grandfather was born is now under the Grand Coulee Dam.

Greetings Al,
Enclosed is a photo of Joseph Ledwich, son of Robert Ledwich and Bridget Louth, born in Sherrington, and Sarah Waters,
daughter of William Waters and Sara Braniff, born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. photo circa 1897, Washington State.

Joseph Ledwich and Sarah Waters
Hi Al,
My great great grandparents William Henry Waters and Sara Braniff were born in the Montreal area and must have moved to S
herbrook because that is where my great grandmother was born. I don’t have very much information and I am being lazy,
I do not want to type it out, so I just took a photo of a genealogy chart. They emigrated to Yakima Washington, but
left very early footprints in Canada.
Attaching a photo of William and Sara Waters circa 1909 Washington State.
