I saw your name on the Bytown or Bust Web site regarding Irish genealogy in the Ottawa Valley.

I am researching Patrick McDermott, son of Michael McDermott and Mary Walsh, who was 
born around 1852 in Fitzroy Township.

By any chance, would you happen to know where Patrick was baptized and where his parents were born?

Here's the marriage record for Michael McDermott and Mary Walsh:

McDermott, Michael
son of McDermott, Michael and McCarthy, Margaret of County Galway, Ireland
married on 8/23/1846
Walsh, Mary
daughter of Walsh, Thomas & Walsh, Mary  of Co Mayo, Ireland / residing at
the Chats Falls ... Fitzroy Harbour,
at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Huntley Township

St. Michael's at Huntley was the church used by the folks from Fitzroy until
they built their own church around 1850. Patrick is probably
baptized in the newer church at Fitzroy Harbour. I think it's also called
St. Michael's.

I have a question for you. I had always thought that Michael and Mary were married before they came to Canada. The 1851 census 
had them with a daughter born in Ireland. What is your source for the marriage information?

Thanks for the offer on the farm site. A friend sent me a link to the McGill archives which have online county and township maps 
which can be searched. I was able to find the farm and we are going to see the location this coming week when we come to Fitzroy.
 
I have a fair amount of information about some of the descendants of Michael and Mary, but I am beginning to doubt the authenticity 
of some of it. I will take a look at it and think about posting some of it when we get home.

Hi there:
 
The 1846 marriage record is from St. Michael’s at Corkery, Huntley Township. It’s about a ten minute drive south from 
St. Michael’s Cemetery at Fitzroy Harbour.
The Corkery church was built in the 1820’s. It’s a pioneer cemetery.
There is a photo of the church today at www.bytown.net/Alsrob.htm  .
