Daniel McGINLEY from County Donegal, Ireland
to Marlborough Township, Ontario, Canada in 1841

New November 29, 2009:

Greetings Al,
I read your inquiry about the pioneers in Marlborough Township / Burritts Rapids. Thanks for supplying the map (below). I located my great
grandfathers farm. It is Daniel McGinley, 150 acres, several lots south of the highlighted Mrs. Burns' property. By coincidence I
ordered that map earlier today and will review all the lots. There are others there, I believe, that are relatives. My great
grandfather was born in Donegal and lived by the village of Pettigo, emigrated to Canada in 1841.

Irish Emigrants to Marlborough Township, Ontario, Canada
Good morning, Tom: Thanks for your e-mail regarding your Great Grandfather, Daniel McGinley. I had a quick look for this surname and see that some McGinleys appear in the records of St. Clare's Church at Dwyer Hill (www.bytown.net/stclare.htm). In the early days, this church / cemetery was a mission of St. Philip's Church at Richmond. There are a few McGinleys also registered at St. Philip's starting in the mid-1840's. The McGinleys were related, for sure, to the Gormans and Tansy (Tansleys?) in the 1840's. It's interesting how many of these early families became related to their neighbours in the same parish. It was a close community. Is it OK with you if I start a new web page on our site (www.bytown.net) as a contact for other researchers? Please let me know. Thanks again for this. ... Al ______________________________________________ Hello Al, Thanks very much for the information. The McGinleys listed there may be my connections - I saw something several years ago that suggested St. Philip's Church but couldn't get the details at the time. On the bytown.net, yes please add the contact information. I appreciate that very much. I was very happy to have found Daniel's McGinley's farm (1879 map). It appears it was Daniel, his wife and his brothers Andrew and Patrick were living on the property at the time. Tom ______________________________________________ Here are a couple of records from S. Philip's RC Church at Richmond: 1846, January 1 Baptism of Mary Ann, born 25 October 1846, legitimate daughter of John Gorman and Ann McGinley. The Godparents were John McCann and Emily Rath. 1871, 25 January Baptism of John, born 17 November last of the lawful marriage of Andrew Mcginley and Margaret Tansley. The sponsors were Patrick Murphy and Ann Gorman Source -- Drouin Records at ancestry.ca (Both the Gorman and Tansley farms are shown on the map).
