More McGRATHS
Hi Everyone;
Here are more McGraths to ponder:
First: Al - great amusing bit that about the writer of the Hokey-Pokey, great stuff.
Anyway here is another McGrath Family, I found while stumbling through the
Marlborough 1881 Census:
Census 1881: Place: Marlborough, Carleton, Ontario, Canada
Source: FHL Film 1375867 NAC C-13231 Dist 108 SubDist C Div 1 Page 32
Family 128:
Lawrence MCGRACH, Male, Married, Age 74, Origin Irish, Born Ireland, Occ: Farmer, Roman Catholic
Briget (GORMAN) MCGRACH, Female, Married, Age 70, Origin Irish, Born Ireland, Roman Catholic
Margarette MCGRACH, Female, Age 25, Origin Irish, Born Ontario, Roman Catholic
Ellen MCGRACH, Female, Age 23, Origin Irish, Born Ontario, Roman Catholic
Terressa MCGRACH, Female, Age 4, Origin Irish, Born Ontario, Roman Catholic
Catherine HALPEN / HALPIN, Female, Age 23, Origin Irish, Born Ontario,
Occ: Going to School, Roman Catholic
The surname obviously here is McGrath, Notice the Teresa McGrath, age 4,
which would make her born 1877/1878, this one would be closer to Michael
William Kennedy's age, who was supposed to have married a second time to a
Teresa McGrath, and perhaps the Teresa McGrath's were getting mixed up, the second
wife to Michael was supposedly born in 1895 and died somewhere around 1969, however
someone also indicated that a Teresa McGrath passed away in the 1990s.
The Lawrence McGrath above is married to Bridget Gorman and both are in their 70s,
and Teresa couldn't possibly be their child, so who does she belong to.
I also have another Teresa McGrath, b. 20 Mar 1881 (daughter of Thomas McGrath,
b. 1836, and Nancy Anne Drogan, b. 1846), she was born in Algona South, Renfrew
North County, and baptised in the Our Lady of the Angels Church in Brudenell,
on Apr 10, 1881, I took the info from the link to the Brudenell church on Al's
website, Also in the margin beside Teresa McGrath's baptism are the following notes:
She was married 11 Apr 1910 at St. Patrick's Church, Fort William, Ontario to
"John Andrew Kennedy", of which I have no information about. This McGrath Family
is in the 1881 Census for Renfrew North. So now we have three Teresa McGraths.

Hi Ken
Perhaps this says it all.

From the Ontario Archives, marriage indexes, MS934, Reel # 15 shows the
marriage of Michael William Kennedy and Teresa McGrath. Microfilm MS932,

It appears where father Fay has written the particulars, he has entered the
date of November 7, 1917, however where Michael William Kennedy signed, it
is dated November 6, 1917 and is stamped received by the Registrar General

were John T. Demerah of Ottawa and Margaret Callaghan of St. Brigids Church.
The parents of Michael William are listed as William Kennedy and Elizabeth
Carroll. The brides parents are listed as Michael McGrath and Mary Ann
Carroll of Huntley.(NOTE::::: Teresa McGrath was dropped off on the steps of
St. Isodore's Church when she was a baby. Mary Ann Carroll was working for
Father Fay at the time and she and her husband Michael McGrath raised her as
their own. Mary Ann Carroll, the mother, was Elizabeth

Division 6, Page 1 shows
Ann Helena's age as being 21 years old and born December 6, 1880.
Living on Concession 3, Lot 16
From the Ontario Archives ; MS 932, Reel # 95, Registration # 003655, shows
Michael William Kennedy, age 21, bachelor and farmer, son of William Kennedy
and Elizabeth Carroll marrying Helena Watt, age 19, spinster, daughter of
Cornelius Watt and Margaret Tierney, on August 30, 1898 at St. Patrick's
Church in Fallowfield. Service performed by J. A. Shaw. Witnesses were
William J. Kennedy ( could be William Joseph or William James) and Elizabeth

Hi Everyone, Especially Taylor;
Taylor: I knew that you would surface with the facts concerning the marriage
between, Michael William Kennedy and Teresa McGrath, good show. Now to the
next point, just who is the Teresa McGrath, b. abt 1877/1878, that is living
in Marlborough with Lawrence McGrath and his wife Bridget Gorman, and the
second point anyone know who the "John Andrew Kennedy" is that married on 11
Apr 1910, the third Teresa McGrath, b. 10 Apr 1881 in Renfrew North, and the
third point, somewhere in the Kennedy/Cunningham/McGrath E-Mails to each
other, someone mentions a Teresa McGrath passing away in the 1990s, who is
this Teresa.

May 24, 2003:
I noticed your latest posting concerning a Mary McKenna-McGrath originally
from Co. Tyrone who settled in Osgoode. Do you know what townland or civil
parish she may have come from in Co. Tyrone? Was she related to Hugh
McKenna or Virgil McKenna in Osgoode?
My Gr gr grandfather was Bernard McKenna (b. 1813) from Co. Tyrone who came
to Black Rapids area of Gloucester (also buried at Our Lady of the
Visitation) and I've been trying to find any of his kin, or least a clue of
where specifically they hailed from in Co. Tyrone.
Thanks for any help
Jim McKenna

Jim:
This might be a long shot but there was a Cahill family who were close neighbours
of the McKennas and McGraths in Osgoode Township in the 1800's. I think they
came from a place called "Glenocan" (spelling?) in County Tryone. Glenocan
could be a parish or a townland. There may be a connection.
