Patrick McTIERNAN and Margaret HOGG

January 31, 2002:
Hi Al,

On your page that I mention above there is a McTiernan, Patrick 35

I have no knowledge of the Nepean Militia and was wondering if there is any
other way I can track down some more information on Patrick McTiernan.

I was told my g-g-g grandfather was Patrick McTiernan that came to Canada
from Ireland and built a log house about six miles from Arnprior on the bank
of the Ottawa River, or the Grand River as the Indians called it. I am not
sure of the date he had done this. He also married a Margaret Hogg but info
may be wrong. (There is also a William HOGG on the 1828 Nepean Militia List).

His son John (my g-g-grandfather) crossed the river and made a home over
there in Pontiac County, Quebec. So seems like this line of McTiernan's are
scattered around. :o)

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.
As my dad had said:
May the Lord take a Liking to Ya....
BUT not too soon!!!
Take Care
Awaiting your reply.

Hi Gale:

I'm not sure if this is your Patrick McTiernan or not:
In 1829 there was a Patrick McTEARN who was in Bytown. He came from County Leitrim,
Ireland and had two grown brothers back in Leitrim - their names were James and John.
Source: ML# 412 on the McCabe List

Do you know if your Patrick came from Leitrim?

As for the name HOGG, there's a William Hogg also listed on the 1828 Nepean Militia List.
The militia records are at the National Archives or you could check Bruce Elliott's book
at the bibliography.

Also, if these people were in Nepean in 1842 they will show up on the 1842 Nepean Census.
If you're in the Ottawa area, it's available at the Centrepointe Library (indexed and
computerized).
