Thomas PETTAPIECE and Charlotte MOFFITT
(also other pieces of the Pettapiece pie)

Possibly ML# 234 and ML# 235 on the McCabe List

April 25, 2002:

Hi There.
I saw on your website that Thomas Pettapiece was one of the executors of a Richard Tighe
will. I was wondering if you know where I could find more information on Thomas.
I believe he is a relation on my husbandís side. I know the Thomas Pettapiece I am looking
for was born in Ireland. He married Charlotte Moffitt and they lived in Ottawa, Canada.

Thank you for your help

Misty Boles

Hi Misty Richard Tighe was Irish, from County Cavan. This Thomas Pettapiece resided in North Gower. Your best bet right now is to search the 1871 on-line census for him as a starting point, for North Gower or Goulbourn Townships. Taylor kennedy ====================== Hi guys: There are two Pettapiece men, Richard and Arthur on the 1829 McCabe List. They may be brothers (no age given) as they both came from County Sligo, Ireland, parish of Clooncurra, Townland of Ballisadare. They were both single men at the time (1829) and Arthur's father's name was Thomas. Thomas was still in Ireland. These may or may not be your husband's ancestors' family, but Pettapiece was not a common name in the Ottawa area back then. Also, the 1881 Census CD's for North Gower Township show two Pettapiece families: One headed by a widow named Charlotte (could she be Moffitt?) ----------------------- Thomas PETTAPIECE M Married 60 Irish Ireland Occ: Farmer Religion: Church of England Marie A. Al ============= Hi Al... I want to thank you for the information. The Pettapiece family headed by Charlotte I think is a match. The brothers James and Jones are in the family I am researching. The only real doubt I have is that Jones Pettapiece was born on July 15, 1864. That would make him 17 not 11. So I just want to double check to see if it was a typo. But the good news is that the age of James is correct because his birthday was June 06, 1866. Also I do not mind if you add my research to your web page. Just tell me what you need. Thank you again for your help. Misty Boles =============== Note: Some of the neighbours of the Pettapiece family (according to the 1881 census CD) were Baxter, Brophy and Houlahan from southern Nepean Township. In northern North Gower Township, close to the Nepean line were a couple of MOFFITT families (related to Charlotte?). ... Al
June 3, 2002: Hi: I found your references to your Pettapiece ancestors on the Bytown or Bust website. I think I am connected to your family, but am unsure of the linkages. My ancestor from North Gower is Jones Pettapiece, born in 1799 in Ireland. He had 17 children. His son James, born in 1835, is my great grandfather. He left the Ottawa area and moved to Kent County, Ontario. According to my records, Thomas Pettapiece, who married Charlotte Moffat is also one of Jones' children. Much of the Pettapiece information was very kindly shared with me by Margaret Burbidge of Ottawa, who unfortunately is not on-line. Generation No. 1 1. JAMES ARCHIBALD (WILLIE)2 WILSON (ARCHIBALD1) was born December 20, 1848 in Goulbourn Township, Carleton County, Ontario, and died March 14, 1920 in Calgary, Alberta. He married PRACILLA ANNETTA PETTAPIECE October 05, 1880 in North Gower, Ontario, daughter of THOMAS PETTAPIECE and MARGARET BROWNLEE. She was born June 24, 1860 in Kars, Ontario, and died February 02, 1924 in Calgary, Alberta. Notes for JAMES ARCHIBALD (WILLIE) WILSON: James Archibald Wilson and Priscilla Annetta Pettapiece were married 5 October 1880 at North Gower, Ontario (marrige registration #2053-1880). Witnesses were Thomas Cathcart of Goulbourn and Rebecca A. Pettapiece of North Gower; Priscilla's sister. James and Priscilla left Ontario between 1881-1883 and settled in Prattford, North Dakota, U.S.A., where they remained until c1905; then to Cochrane, Alberta (just outside Calgary) where they also farmed. It is uncertain if their first child, 'Etta' Mary Wilson was born in Ontario or Prattford, but she died there about 1895 - age 14 years (no death record or tombstone found in North Dakota). The rest of the eight children were all born in North Dakota.
