Descendants of John 'Richard' Pettapiece and Ann Ferguson
JOHN 'RICHARD'2 PETTAPIECE (PETTAPIECE1) was born 1808 in Sligo, and died 1846 in
Marlborough Twp., Ont. He married ANN FERGUSON 1826 in Sligo Co.. She was born
1810 in Lough Eske, Ireland, and died 24 July 1898 in North Gower. They were both
buried Rideauvale Cem., Kars, On.
Richard did not own any land. From early census records it seems that Richard and
Ann moved frequently and were tenants on various farms. They were living in Montague
Twp, Lanark Co., in 1830, Richard was listed as a shoemaker. In 1834 Richard, Ann and
three children were living with William and Susan Pettapiece and their four children,
in Marlborough Co. both families lived on the north half of Lot 4, Conc. 7. In 1838
they had moved to Lot 4, Conc. 8, in Marlborough Twp., about 1839 he sold his good
will on this lot and moved to Conc. 3 in Marlborough. On Jan. 5, 1846 Richard was
sworn in as Assessor and Tax Collector for Marlborough. In 1846 the County Council
Minutes applied for a new tax collector as Richard Pettapiece was dead. In some
documents he was described as John Richard Pettapiece He was drowned.
