May 8, 2005:
Hi Al:
I have attached the original family of William Pettapiece and Susan Morrison who
came from Ireland and settled in Marlborough. (see below)
I have researched all the Pettapiece families in the area and have received
information from Peggy Burbidge, Linda Bunn, Joyce Stevernol, Vera Abercrombie,
Ruby Miller, Wayne and Irene Pettapiece, Ron Cason and others.
I also have information on the original families for:
Thomas Pettapiece (1789-1872) m. Catherine Stokes (1794-1864) who settled
in Oxford Twp, Grenville Co.
Jonas Pettapiece (1799-1872) m. Ann Ferguson (1813-1881) in Marlborough
Richard Pettapiece (1808-1846) m. Ann Ferguson (1810-1898) in Marlborough
It is believed that these three men and William were brothers and perhaps a
sister, Nancy Pettapiece m. Lt. John Johnston. in North Gower Twp. and they
were all born in Ireland.
I also have researched the following families:
Robert Wiggins (1798-1881) m. Elizabeth Wilson (1799-1888) from Ireland
and settled in Goulbourn and moved to Marlborough.
William Powell (1793-1871) m. Maria Foster (1796-1865) came from Ireland and
settled in Marlborough
Peter Davidson (1781-aft. 1838 m. Elizabeth Guthrie (1801-1857) came from
Scotland and settled in Marlborough
James Beaman (1798- ) m. Elizabeth Godmaire (1794) settled in Goulbourn
William Willis (1799-1881) m, Esther Leach (1798-1883) from Ireland and
settled in Beckwith and moved to North Gower Twp.
Willliam Brownlee (1800-1866) m. Ann Ross (1808-1863) settled in Goulbourn
I think you know we have prepared books for Seabrook family, Dunbar family,
Powell family which are in some of the libraries.
If you would like the info I have on the original families in this area I will
send them to you.

Family of William Pettapiece
1. WILLIAM1 PETTAPIECE was born Abt. 1797 in Lough Eske, Ireland, and died 26
April 1878 in Marl. Twp.1. He married SUSAN MORRISON in Lough Eske, Ireland.
She was born Abt. 1805 in Lough Eske, Ireland, and died 22 July 1896 in Marl.
Twp. Both are buried in Anglican Cemetery, Richmond
William and Susan came from Ireland about 1830 and settled on the East half
of Lot 4, Conc. 7, Marlborough Township, Carleton County. The first assessment
record I could find was for 1834 and at that time they had one son and three
daughters, there appears to be another daughter older than
Mary, In 1838 census they had three sons and three daughters, and in future
records in 1841 showed four sons and four daughters which appears that we are
missing one daughter from the 1834 census and 1841 census it confirms there were
eight children. Mary was the oldest child at home in 1851 census, so there
appears to be another daughter between Richard and Mary which was at least eight
years old in 1841 so likely was away from home before 1851, and she may have been
married at that time and we have not been able to locate her marriage or death.
We found Richard through his second marriage in North Gower. William was the Assessor
for the Township of Marlborough at one time.
