It's a small world. We're related. My aunt Ida Burns, married William Patrick Herbert 
(my uncle Billy). Billy and Ida farmed on the Snake Island Road. I have lots of 
memories of good times with my cousins at the Herbert farm in the 1950's.

I also have an old photo of Uncle Bill with his prize horses, probably from the
1940's.
 
When I first started researching my family roots, Michael Daley, was a great help. 
You probably know him -- he's also related to the Herberts of Osgoode. He also 
contributes to the web site. He knows a great deal about the history of this area. 
Actually, I'm going to add his e-mail address to the Herbert web pages on the web site.

Hi Al,

It's great to meet new cousins!  My Dad often spoke fondly of Billy and Ida. He grew 
up in the 40's and 50's so I'm sure you know each other well.  I think their farm 
was around the corner from another aunt & uncle of mine, Joan and Manning McEvoy . 

I know Michael Daley, for sure!...   I grew up just down the road from him.  

Please do add my email address to your web-site. I find this stuff fascinating. 
We had a big Herbert Reunion about 10 years ago and I have notes tucked away that 
trace my lines back to Ireland.  I'll have to dig it out and send it to you. 
Mike Daley actually conducted part of the tour of the area for my extended cousins.   

My mothers side is also very interesting. My Great Great Grandfather actually ran 
the ferry in Manotick before there was a bridge.

The Last Pine
maybe 70 feet tall
The tree below is one of the largest pine trees in the Osgoode area. It is on
what was until the 1980's or so, one of the Herbert farms. I remember
very good times here in the summers of the 1950's. The farm house burned down
probably in the 1980's and the farm is now a commercial sod farm. Many of 
these farms, of which the Irish pioneers were so proud, are now golf courses, 
subdivisions or sod farms.
