Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
History and Genealogy in the Ottawa, Canada area

January 23, 2011:
Hi there – I came across a web site for RCMP history and memorials (www.rcmpgraves.com) hosted by
J. J. (Joe) Healy,
Reg.#23685
Superintendent (Retired)
Vet. Volunteer & Website Coordinator
This is an excellent site to find links to our men and women in Red who helped keep our country safe over the years.
I noted my grandfather John Kidd in the database with no details and sent the information I had to Joe. He featured
my grandfather John Kidd (born in Motherwell, Scotland) as the RCMP Veteran of the month for January 2011. John was
born in Motherwell, Scotland son of David Kidd and Isabella McNab. The family (Catherine, David, John, Alexander,
Mary, and Elwood) came to Toronto 13 August 1910 aboard the SS. Hespernia. John enlisted in WW1 in September 1916
and served overseas. He was 15 years old. He was sent home after injury October 1917 when it was determined he was underage.
He married Viola Helen Gardiner daughter of George Gardiner and Frances Fetherstonhaugh who lived on the Pink Road in
Cantley, Quebec. They had 13 children they raised in the Ottawa and then South March areas. Three sons Kenneth, Eddie,
and Arnold also served overseas in WW2. I am attaching a picture of my grandfather John Kidd mounted for a funeral ceremony.
I was post article with Joe, able to date the picture to the RCMP escort at the funeral of Sir Robert Borden (1937) on
Parliament Hill in Ottawa. As well post article, a picture was located of John with his two daughters Marylyn and Marjie
in his uniform circa early 1940`s. Treasures from family networking.
It would be nice if this site could be referenced for those who had family that worked for the RCMP and to help Joe
enhance his database. If the other information and pics are of interest please post as you wish.
Thanks
