Dear Al,
I was able to confirm that my ggf's name was Michael Redmond. It was quite a thrill to
view the GEDCOM file for my father's family. As he is an only child, I do not have any
aunts or uncles to ask for stories and information.
I see that you and Mitchell have met on-line. Mitchell and I also met online while
trying to find Michael Redmond. We have discovered that we are direct cousins.
Should you require further information to add to the Redmond list, feel free to
contact me. I would however like to point out that one name is missing from
William Redmond and Mary Forrester's children. Her name was Elizabeth
(Lizzie). Also in the second generation, I have the name of Marguerite Redmond's
spouse and their children.
I also have the name of most spouses/children of the third generation.
It is my father's fondish wish to write about the Redmond Family, he is however
missing the information for which Mitchell and I are seeking. He was a well-known
columnist in the Ottawa area. He has since moved and research is best done if a
person has access to the area.
If ever you should come across further information on Mary Forrester, we would very much
appreciate the information.
Thank you.
Kathy Redmond.
I am not sure what help I could be for those researching the Bowesville area
other than quoting from the book. However you can add my email if you wish.
Funny that you mention the Collins family. The Collins family home was near
where I grew up. I remember Edgar and Leonard Collins. Leonard liked to hang
around my dad's gas station.

One Small Mystery Solved
Hello everybody,
Below you will find an email that was sent to me by David Nolan. He clears up the
name of Michael's wife. Her name was Anne Burke.(we can now officially change her name on
the site) He also was able to shed some light on where Michael and Anne were buried. Mitchell
and I were looking for this information and I'd like to extend my thanks to David for his
help and information. So it seems Mitchell, David and I are all related!!
If I get more info, I'll let you know.
Take care,
Kathy Redmond
"Hi Kathy
In reply to your inquiry, Michael Redmond, Ontario Cda. in the Redmond Family Geneology
Forum. I am Michael Redmonds great-grandson and still live on Bowesville Road, Manotick
Station, Gloucester beside the Redmond farm purchased by Michaels son Robert (my grandfather)
in April 1906. Michael Redmond came from County Wexford in 1855, the year of arrival was stated
in the 1901 census. He is supposed to have met his wife Anne Burke (her name was not Wilson) on
the boat coming from Ireland. Michael apparently was working on the boat and jumped ship upon
arrival in Canada. This was told to me by Loretta Redmond of Eganville. They lived on Lot 22,
Conc. 4 North Gower Twp. and first appear in the !861 census of North Gower Twp. Three of their
children were baptized in North Gower on the same day, Aug.7, 1870, they were Thomas Edward,
John James and Margaret Jane. In 1883 they moved to Gloucester Twp. Michael and Anne died in
Eganville and are buried there.
I have done quite a bit of research on this family and have names, dates of marriages, births,
deaths etc. Catherine Boulger was my grandmother, married to Robert Redmond, so I have info on the
Boulger family, as they were also from this area. I can give you all this info should you wish.
Sincerely
David Nolan"

From Mitchell LaFrance:
I see that David Nolan explained the mix-up for Michael Redmond and Anne Burke (not Wilson!).
A couple of other updates are:
* Michael's birth/death are actually Nov 17, 1826-Mar 23, 1907. He is buried at
St James in Eganville.
* Ann's birth/death are actually Mar 17, 1841-Mar 21, 1912. She is also buried at
St James in Eganville. Her father's name was John.

I am wondering if any of you have John Redmond who married Ann Boivin
Nov. 23, 1897.
Ann was the daughter of my gr.gr. aunt Delany Arnold /Patrick Boivin.
Delany died in Ottawa in 1925 and John Redmond's name appears on her
burial certificate as a witness.
I would like to have her birth/death dates and the names of any
children.
Thank you
Lois Martin, Abbotsford, B.C.

March 16, 2004:
Greetings to the Redmond Family:
I happened upon your site by accident, but it proved to be quite a boon. We are the
grandchildren of Daniel J. Redmond. Daniel’s birth date is 8 March 1889. He died in Santa
Clara County, California, USA, 10 October 1947, of an apparent heart attack.
We found a letter in our mother’s (Eva Elizabeth Redmond Breen) correspondence from
“Aunt Bessie” Redmond. The letter dated 29 April 1946, was a request from Bessie to help
locate Daniel. She was making an attempt to reconnect with him and report the passing
of their father (whom I assume to be John James Redmond) on 26 December 1945.
Daniel married L. Belle Brown of Sparta, Wisconsin. They had three daughters: Eva, Dee,
and Winifred (Peggy). All are now deceased. L. Belle Brown Redmond died in childbirth
in approximately 1936.
Daniel worked as a miner, a logger, a special agent for the railroad, and finally during
the war as a security guard at the shipyards at Terminal Island, California.
Our thanks for the wonderful and thorough information posted on your web site. For the first
time we have a sense of our mother’s family--and we are thrilled.

March 20, 2004:
Megan and Sean, I am very pleased to make your aquaintance.
Thank you very much for the information on your grandfather and his descendants.
Based on your being Daniel's grandchildren, this would make you my "third cousins".
I am the great-grandchild of Robert Redmond and Catherine Boulger. Robert was the brother
of John James Redmond, your great-grandfather. It is very interesting that Robert Redmond
and many of his siblings as well as nephews also worked for the railroad... it seems
to run in the Redmond family.
I think you saw from the website that the first Redmond that came to Canada from Ireland
was Michael Redmond. He was born in Wexford Ireland on Nov 17, 1826 and apparently came
to Canada approximately 1855. He and his wife Anne Burke, as well as all of his children,
including John James, all died and were buried in Ontario, Canada. I don't have much
information on Michael, other than the fact he first appears in Ontario census records
in 1861 and is listed as being a member of the "church of England". In 1871, he is then
listed as Catholic, therefore he must have converted during this period. Three of his
children are listed as being baptized in a local Episcopal Church, but my great-grandfather
(Robert) was Catholic and buried in a Catholic cemetery. There is also an entry in the records
of St James Church, Eganville, dated june 15, 1906, in which Michael is identified as having
received the profession of faith in the Catholic church. He was also buried in a Catholic
cemetery in 1907.
Not sure if this interests you... but possibly a special treat... I am attaching a
picture of Michael Redmond and Anne Burke, who are your great-great-grandparents!!
Best regards,
Mitchell Lafrance

I know I have compared notes with some of you previously and we did not
find a connection but I would like to give the names of my relatives in
case someone might now have a connection.
My relative Ann Boivin b: abt 1874 married John REDMOND b: abt 1871 and
they had one child that I am aware of Mildred b: 27 Aug. 1899. I
beleive they were in Ottawa while Ann's parents were at Ste Sixte and
Thurso in Quebec.
