August 27, 2009:
Hi Al - Here's some recently acquired Stanley family info, Bob Mackett should get a plug for
it - he just sent me 10 pages of the tree to expand my Stanley one from one name to ten pages
worth! Elizabeth "Eliza" Stanley (m. William Mooney) was my 3rd great-grandmother.
Thanks,
Don Lowe

November 25, 2009:
Hi Don.
I hope all is well. We are somewhat connected through the William Mooney connection. However though I was given your tree of Stanley and Hodgins
as I am researching the Stanleys ( one of the earliest Stanleys- John Robert whose 2nd wife was Clarinda nee Sides /as per info sent to me it
turned out he had married prior and this wife Jane who died in 1830 at Montreal when the family had just immigrated was part of my Barber line
( her parents were the Barbers of Fitzroy- John and wife Mary nee Latimer) thus I started looking at all the Stanleys through Pontiac, Bytown
and Carleton as well as Leeds and Osgoode - suspect there is many many familial connections from some of the stuff I am seeing that no one has yet connected.).
Anyway this is just some bits of info that I have researched which pertains to the tree you have at the Bytown website and which I hope can be of use
Regards
Kim Cameron-Friel:
On the family of James Stanley ( son of Thomas) born abt 1811- he married Sarah nee Murdock
You will find most of their children were born at Biddulph, Middlesex Ontario and died at Middlesex County such
William Edward -no location other than Ontario provided on his death record of 1917/
James A died in 1918 at Middlesex/
Uriah M born abt 1852 or 53 and died 1929 at Brantford
/Margaret Ann died in 1909 at Biddulph/ another daughter Ellen born abt 1851 married Millar Edwards( I suspect this
is Helena as Ellen was 23 when she married in 1874 which places her birth yr abt that of Ellen- it was common to
confuse the name Helen with Ellen back in those days - lots of this mistake in my own ancestral tree record when
searched)/
another daughter was Sarah Jane born abt 1860 who died in 1921 at Parry Sound- she married Isaac Lowry
I think that James's death date of 1858 may be wrong as there was a son born to the couple abt 1863 named George Albert and he died
1929 at Middlesex as well as another son Bernard Ward born abt 1867 who died 1928 at Middlesex
Another fascinating tidbit is that there is another Stanley family in the same timeframe and in the same place ( and having children
around the same time ie : 1854,etc) who was Thomas Stanley and wife Elizabeth nee Dobbs - one son was a James D - suspect the D
is for Dobbs as it appears in all the boys names as a middle initial- born 1854 at Biddulph who died at Perth in 1917/
there was also son Robert, Thomas and William who all died at Perth as well but born at Biddulph-
The family in 1852 showing some of the children as found in the tree you attached
( Source: 1852 Census / Canada West / Huron (county) / 136 Biddulph township / p. 4d, 5a, (9) ) /also interesting given the
"Hodgins" connection elsewhere in the Stanley lines that on this census the family doesn't seem to live too far from a James
Hodgins of Ireland and family
21 Stanley, James Farmer Ireland Church of England 35 M
22 Stanley, Sarah Ireland Church of England 27 F
23 Stanley, William Edward Canada Church of England 5 M
24 Stanley, Margaret Ann Canada Church of England 4 F
25 Stanley, Helena Canada Church of England 2 F
On Thomas who married Mary nee Forbes - one son missing of Sylvester born abt 1831 ( on his marriage record at Michigan, USA, he states
his father's middle intial was "B") /he married at the ripe old age of 76 Dema M nee Wilcox who was 54 (her parents were Caleb Wilcox and
Marie nee Redfield/ the couple married in 1907 at Hesperia, Michigan, USA
October 29, 2010:
Hello,
I have been searching for the parentage of my great grandfather for years. Just this past month a descendant of one of his sisters
contacted us … Yeah! Hooray!
And, as always, one answer prompts 10,000 questions!!!
It turns out that Thomas Stanley and Elizabeth Hodgins with Ellen, Maria, James, Thomas, Catherine, Eliza and
Samuel are in our direct line of descent ….
I would love to compare notes.
