Jean Baptiste ST. LOUIS
possibly ML# 82 on the McCabe List
November 8, 2002:
The McCabe List shows a Jean-Baptiste St. Louis who is "a Canadian residing in Bytown
and is a very industrious man"
In 1831 Colonel By leased the mill site at Rideau Falls (later New Edinburgh) to Jean
Baptiste St. Louis (Bruce Elliott, The City Beyond, page 94).
In 1838 this property was sold to Thomas McKay.
The dam on the north end of Dow's Lake near Preston Street, built before 1832, was called the St. Louis Dam.
