Some TIERNEY / BROPHY / FERMOYLE families
(mostly TIERNEYs)
E-mail from Taylor Kennedy
Richard TIERNEY m. 1897 to Catherine Brophy 1869-1919. They had 4 daughters.
Hilda, Edna, Marjorie and Eileen. Now out of the Kennedy story by Desmond,
Hilda married Bernard McGillis in 1923, Edna died in 1908, Majorie a nun
[Sister Catherine of Siena] and Eileen married Michael McKennirey in 1932.
Katherine McKennirey states that she is the daughter of Hilda. I think
Desmond accidently switched Hilda and Eileen. My Thomas Kennedy was printed
in the book as being married to Driscoll, but he was married to Costello so
there are some errors.
The Brophy Family

Hi Al
I'll be sending you some exerts from the Kennedy Story by Desmond Kennedy
regarding the train era cutting through the Kennedy farm in Nepean some time
this week.
You site and The Kennedy Story by Desmond Kennedy allowed me tonight to tie
a connection to John Kennys data on the Brophys with some exerts from the
Kennedy Story. Please see the following :
Descendants of Michael Brophy
Generation No. 1
1. MICHAEL1 BROPHY was born 1824, and died 1886. He married MARY FERMOYLE
1862.
Notes for MARY FERMOYLE:
AN EXERT FROM THE KENNEDY STORY by Desmond Kennedy ; Through the years, a
trunk that Mary Fermoyle had brought from Ireland in 1862, was kept in the
upstairs hall of the Brophy home, and was used as a receptacle for money and
important family papers. The key to the trunk hung on a nail over the door,
where anyone needing money could get it, no questions asked!
ANOTHER EXERT FROM THE KENNEDY STORY by Desmond Kennedy ; Grandmother Brophy
( Mary Fermoyle ) had come from Ireland in 1862 at the age of 19, marrying
Michael Brophy shortly after she arrived in Canada. A half-sister of hers,
Judy was married earlier to Paddy Brophy, a brother of Michael. Another
Brophy , Joseph married Bridget Madden ( Ellen Brophy's aunt Biddy ) a
sister of Patrick Madden.
Mrs. Jeremiah Berigan ( Julia ) was the daughter of Paddy Brophy and Judy
Fermoyle. For many years, the Berigans ( Mrs. Berigan was a first cousin of
Ellen Brophy, Desmond's mother ) used to visit our place regularly. I can
remeber how proud Mr. Berigan was of their Essex car - this was a few years
before we got our first car. To hear him tell it, the Essex was the best
car made up to that time.
Children of Joseph Brophy and Bridget Madden were: Annie who did not marry,
Maggie Jane ( Mrs. J.P. Houlahan ) , Julia ( Mrs. Tom McKenna ) , Mary (
Mrs. Charlie McKenna ) , Patrick who married Cassie McDonald, Joseph who
married Agnes Tierney and Ambrose who married Louise Daley.

Was just wondering what the book you referred to regarding marriages at Portage du Fort
on the bytown link was about. I have seen one that is read and is about marriages on
the quebec side.
Trying to find any links to the Tierney’s as well as the Howards from St.Joseph Quebec…..
not having much luck was wondering if you had any information on them.
Interested in any connection to the Family of Bill Tierney and Mary Dunn…
There son Edward Tierney and his wife Anna Howard.
Any info would be appreciated.

I am Dennis Michael Tierney of Lake Worth, FL. My father, Earnest, was born 12/17/1899
in Jockvale, Ont. He had 7 brothers (John, William, Percy, Clement, Charles and Roy)
and a sister. I learned as a small boy that they lived on a farm in Jockvale.
My grandfather was William Tierney and my grandmother was Elizabeth Cayes.
(also spelled Cayer early on).
Their all buried at Holy Seplechur Cemetery in Michigan. My Ggrandfather was
John Tierney of Jockvale also. Im trying to find my records but I know that
my GGreatmothers name was either Briget Nash or Catherine Waters. I think My
GGgrandfather was also a John and one of the two woman above was his wife.
As soon as I locate records I will verify. Please add my name to your site. Thank You

I am having trouble contacting people about their family tree's that are in
the Bytown website. I think their e-mail address is old. I just got 72 pages of
info that I will share. Quick synopsis!
My gggrandfather Timothy Tierney b 1799 Ireland m Ellen Waters / Watters b 1801 in Cashel,
Tipperary, IRE. They had 2m and 4f. Timothy was deported to Australia in 1835.
Ellen and the children came to Nepean around 1835.
I read on the website that she was a widow. Probably just a good story.
Timothy was paroled in Australia in 1853. We don't know anymore re him but we have
some convict papers from Australia that could lead to info.
Ellen came to Nepean with:
Julia b 1824 who married Thomas Fullan and moved to Iowa, USA.
Sarah ?
William b 1827 who married Catherine Ryan in Ogdensburg, NY, USA
Ellen ?
John b 1833 m Bridget Nash (my ggrandfather) Ellen live with him and family.
Mary b 1834 m John Brophy
Website reported that three children stayed in Nepean (Mary, John and Julia
for a while before Iowa) and three went to the states( probably Ellen and
Sarah and William)
Surnames in this new info I received are: Fullan, Ryan, Nash, Brophy, McKenna,
Watters, Travers, Newman, McClevey, Griffin, Watt, Houlihan, Cayes, Madden,
Brophy, LaPoint / Lapointe (adopted by John Tierney), Brennan, and many more.
If I can help I would like to but I'm tech challenged at some of this. I'll also try to e-mail Al.
Thanks Dennis
September 9, 2004:
Hello :)
I have a family tree sent to me by a distant cousin that I located online.
It is rather confusing - I will show you what the Tierney line looks like :
"Honora Tierney (Could be Honorah)
Bros & Sisters:
Goodall
Nancy O'Brian / O'Brien
---------- O'Meara
---------- O'Meara
Peggy (Could be Margaret)
Julie
Biddie Tierney (given name?) BRIDGET
Dennis Tierney
James Tierney
Mortimer Tierney"
I do not know if the Peggy and Julie go with the O'Meara names or not.
There is no country or state noted in that generation, but in the
following generation it is noted that my gg grandmother (Honora's
daughter Anna A.) was born in Canada.
I know that they were originally from Ireland and ended up in Clinton County Iowa.
There is a note under Honora's mother's name Quinn (given name missing)
that says "An English Heiress related to Lady Jane Grey."
I was adopted out of the family at birth, so coming by information
has been a challenge.
I have been blessed to find family members through online emails who
have generously shared our family trees with me, but the O'Rourke / Tierney / Quinn
line has eluded me for years.
Any information would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you for your
effort and willingness to share :)

Hi Pat
Here some marriages and births of Goodall family with Quinlan and Tierney
associates. Arthur jr, which I forgot to copy, married in 1851 - 53 timeframe,
has never came up anymore through to 1884. Same as Mathew Costello disappears
from being a witness to births as in the earlier years. Guess when Mathew
departed for Clinton, Iowa, USA, so did Arthur Goodall Jr. This is all I have
but it may help you a bit.

It was very interesting to find your information on your grandfather
John Tierney married to Bridget Nash. Bridget was the daughter of Patrick
Nash & Margaret Blanchfield who is an ancestor of my husband. We have been
trying to find out information about Margaret Blanchfield as we believe she
is a direct ancestor and probable sister to the 3 Blanchfield boys that
started the 3 main Blanchfield lines in Canada (Patrick, James and John).
We have connected her in a roundabout way by marriage, but proof of her
direct connection to Patrick, James and John are still eluding us. Would
have have any information on her?

Hi Sue:
Thanks for this. I'll add it to the site tomorrow.
I have that book. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an index so it's hard to find
surnames. The web version is probably better.
Two Catholic families came from Richmond about 1822 -- even before the Peter Robinson
Settlers (PR) came to the Corkery area in 1823. For sure one of the families were the
Manions. I think that the other family was this Tierney family.
