John WALLACE b. abt 1797 Ballymeeny, Easky Parish, Dromore West Union, Tirerag Barony,
County Sligo, IRL d. 17 Oct 1883 McNab, Renfrew, ON m. bef 1830 [McNab Twp, Renfrew, ON]
Isabella McCALLUM bap 22 Sep 1810 Ellancoar, Killin, Perth, Scotland d. 18 Sep 1847
Burnstown, Renfrew, ON [parents: John McCALLUM 1774-1863 & Janet FISHER 1785-1854] –
John WALLACE had been on Lot 16, Conc. 1, McNab Twp, Renfrew County since 1831.
John WALLACE came from Ireland between 1826 and 1829 to work on the Rideau Canal near
Bytown, now Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He and other Irish immigrants signed a petition
requesting a land grant and other considerations. This petition was submitted to
Lieutenant Colonel By, Commanding Royal Engineer, Rideau Canal. The above information
except where noted is from “The McCabe List, Early Irish in the Ottawa Valley.”
John WALLACE lived on Lot 16, Conc. 1, McNab Twp, Renfrew, Ontario and Patent issued
on August 18, 1849 from Crown to John WALLACE, 200 acres. 1851 Census lists John
WALLACE, widower, on Lot 16, Conc. 1, McNab Twp, Renfrew, ON living in a log house.
Left property on 9 June 1880, in a will of John WALLACE, to Eliza CRANE and her husband
Edwin.
