Hello Al
I guess I have some more ties for you, he he, sorry. William ( Albert )
TAYLOR was my Great Grandfather on my dad's mom's side, thus my first name
Taylor, and Kennedy from the Kennedy side.My grandmother Mary Taylor married
William James Kennedy. Mary's brother, William Taylor married Lyola KEANE.
(sometimes spelled CAIN).
Lyola's sister married the McEVOY involved in the McEvoy funeral home.
William Taylor and Lyola Keane's son Edward Taylor aka Ted was an undertaker
there.
William Kennedy and Mary Taylor, my grandparents, had Baby Kennedy that was
still born due to prolapse of cord. The McEvoys were the attending
undertakers at the time , which was 1925, and apparently there is a picture
in the funeral home of one of the directors holding Baby Kennedy, who shall
now be called Mary according to the death records I retrieved today, and she
was dressed in a white gown.
William [Albert] Taylor died in 1925 also . The wake was at the house and
McEvoy Bros. were the attending undertakers. My cousin in Ottawa is
providing me some dates and names, which I'll send you a text script of that
line when I get it.
ALSO; I came across a will for a James Burns from 1883, classed himself as a
laborouer. I don't know if he's one of yours so I didn't copy it.
ALSO; Richard Forrest will but did not copy. Nobody had change but I'll get
it next time or if you have access GS1, reel # 787, registration # 3136.
And finally I do have copies of George Robert Burke and his daughters
Catherine Lydia Burkes will. I 'll go through them and let you know.
The web of families grows as the web site does.

This is an exerpt from the book "The Kennedy Story" which appeared in the
Ottawa newspaper on July 10, 1892;
"A Sad Drowning Accident - Young F. Kennedy of Nepean meets an untimely
death - The sad drowning accident which occured in Nepean last week in which
a promising youth, Francis Kennedy, lost his life, has caused general regret
throughout that part of the country. Young Kennedy was a son of Mrs. James
Kennedy, and his father, the late James Kennedy was accidently poisioned
about twelve years ago. The unfortunate young man was accompanied by three
others including his brother M. Kennedy and F. & M. Lynch. He got beyond his
depth in the Jock River and notwithstanding that his companions tried hard
to save him, he was drowned. His funeral was very largely attended and the
pall bearers were Messers, D. Bergin, T. Quinlan, Chas. McKenna, M. Lynch,
P.Larkin and D. Fogarty. Reverend Father Sloan performed the ceremony."
Desmond's Aunt May [ Mary Ann Kennedy ] married James McMahon in 1906 and
lived on a farm a mile or so from Merrickvale. Before leaving for Vancouver
to set up practice, Desmond's uncle Bill [ William Kennedy ] married Jule
McMahon [ full name Julia A. McMahon ] who was a sister of James and had
taught school in Jockvale and for a time in Osgoode.

I don't know if you have this data or not,
but Elizabeth Carroll nee Cunningham, nee Kennedy, nee Britt, but when she
died Patrick Carroll was her sole executor of her Will, who lived in
Huntley. Could be her father or brother, but I was looking for a birth date.
Thanks
Taylor
Hi Al
The entry of Elizabeths burial at St Michaels corresponds to her Last Will
and Testament. It is stated that she died August 11, 1887. Your records show
burial August 13, 1887. Her last married spouse was Michael Britt also
stated in her Will. Thomas Carroll was more likely her son-in-law. Her
daughter Elizabeth Cunningham married Thomas Carroll from Quebec who was a
black smith. They were given custody of Mary Teresa Kennedy upon Elizabeth
Britt's death. Patrick Carroll is executor of her Will. I don't know if it's
her father or brother.
Hi Al
Further to Elizabeth Britt, in her last Will and Testament she put her mark,
meaning she was illiterate, which one could assume her father was also. The
Patrick Carroll, executor of the Will signed his own name, thus directing my
thoughts to him being her brother. If there is a record of her brother David
Carroll born to Patrick Carroll and Jane O'Leary, we then would have a
confirmed birthdate for Elizabeth. If she was born in 1846 then she would
have been 41 years of age which makes sense to Michael Britts age and to the
birth of Patrick Britt. Her estate was worth $400.00 in which she gave
$200.00 to her brother David. So she probablly buried at St Michaels without
a marker because of the lack of funds, unless it was overlooked during the
review of the cemetery?

Taylor:
Do you know if your Watt family (Isabella) came through Glengarry, near
Cornwall, with the Scottish Kennedys?
My wife comes from Glengarry and her GGGrandmother was a Catherine Watt,
1796-1876, who married William Reid in Ireland, Manock of Derry.
The name Isabella has carried through from generation to generation in my
wife's family and her mother's name is Isabella.
... Al
Hi Al
What I do know about Isabella Watt, is that she was born in the West Indies
according to her death registration. According to the Kennedy Story supp.
Desmond stated that she came to Canada from Ireland. Sadly that's all I know
about her. I just received a copy of William Kennedys second marriage from
St Patricks in Ottawa but no parents name on it, however William was 60
years old and Elizabeth Carroll was 35 years old... Taylor
Now for James Watt. I suspect he may have been in the Navy and that's the only way
Isabella could have been born in the West Indies. Judith his wife (no last
name) was born in Ireland. Isabella's brother James was born in Ireland.
Another Kennedy informed me a couple of days ago that William is listed in
the 1842 Census of Huntley where he states that he has been in Canada for 9
years, which would be his arrival 1833 the year he married. James Watt is
also listed only 10 names away. The documents I received from North Dakota
today shows William immigrating to Canada in 1833.On a sad note, Bridget,
daughter to William and Isabella married Patrick Fallon (who was a lumber
rafter on the Ottawa River)sound familiar, married in 1879 and left for the
Dakotas.Bridget died in 1892 buried in Great Bend. Years ago was a severe
rise in the water table and the markers were moved to one corner of the
cemetery. The site was lost for ever and the markers ended up being
buried. One step closer to connecting William of Nepean and John and Hugh in
Huntley. I have a father's name for William. All of this today. Well that it
for this hour, take care

WOW!!!!!!!!
HELLO KEN ARMSTRONG
Great to hear from you. I do have new information regarding the brothers of
Bryan Waters and the parents of Isabella Watt. Still working on good old
William as well as most of the associated families. Not only the information
on Al's web site (my buddy) backed by documents from the archives.
I would love to hear and read and include the descendents of Archibald
Armstrong into my Family Tree with your permission. I know they are buried
in Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa (formerly Vanier). As you can see, I
somewhat very excited to receive your email. I know this makes Al very proud
to see his web site work, to have family meet family, and his efforts are
not in vain.
I'll be down at the Ontario Archives next week to source more on the Kennedy
side as well as the brothers of Brian (Bryan) Waters. There is also the
"Kennedy Story" written by Desmond Kennedy about his youth in Carleton. You
may wish this, I'd be more than happy to copy it and send it snail mail.
Here are Bryans brothers. Keep in touch, please. Take care
Taylor Kennedy

Hello Ken & Al
Here's a picture of William Kennedys' tombstone.
According to another researcher in Ottawa, Isabella Watt is buried there with him,
but not listed on the stone. William remarried at age 70 and had 3 additional children.
Now this Martha on his stone is interesting. I can't find a birth or death
register on her, but I'm still looking. I haven't tried St. Patricks
baptisim files. I must write to them and ask them to search.
Ken when you're ready, I'll email you the additional families associated
with William & Isabella's group, such as the Hawleys, Costelloes, Tierney,
Houlahan, Brophy and so on. Take care for now.

Kennedy-Craig Forest
This forest is named after two families that were joined and intertwined when two
Kennedy sisters married two Craig brothers. Gervais Craig (McCabe List # 440)
left Ireland, County Tyrone, in 1816 and acquired land near Black Rapids in the
1840's. His original farmhouse was burnt down in the Great Fire of 1870 but the
land was passed down through the families until it was expropriated in 1963 by the
National Capital Commission and became part of the Greenbelt.
William Kennedy lived in Nepean from 1831 to the 1850's and moved to Jockvale
with a lot that included 300 acres of land. His family lived there for four
generations. The original farmhouse was sold in 1946 and is adjoined today by
the Barrhaven Fellowship Christian Reformed Church.

Hi Al
I'm just heading off to work. I saw your addition to the Kennedy file
regarding the Kennedy and Craigs. Is this your research? Ottawa Citizen? a
book? Just curious. The comments suggest the Kennedy Homestead is still
standing.

two daughters, Mary Dorothy who married Shanly Walter Craig and Margaret
Clare who married Cecil Craig.

Joy
You are correct that Michael Joseph was born May 2, 1877. I was just stating
a comment from the "Kennedy Story" by Desmond Kennedy, son of Michael
Joseph, regarding the ten years. Going to have to check the census for
McGrath in 1901 and see if Alice and Teresa are of the same family. Chances
are good that they are sisters seeing that the age difference between
Michael Joseph Kennedy and Michael William Kennedy is only three years.
Take care for now
HAPPY THANKGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Taylor, Al and Joy;
I checked out the 1901 Census for Nepean and March Townships, for McGrath
and only found one reference to McGraths in the entire two townships:
Census 1901, Ontario, Carleton County, District 52, Nepean Township, SubDist

There were no other McGrath's in Nepean or March Townships in 1901. Where
would Michael McGrath and Mary Ann Carroll be located in 1901, any ideas?

Thanks Taylor (again!)
Hi Ken
On the marriage register for Michael William Kennedy and Theresa (Teresa)
McGrath, her place of birth is listed as Huntley Township. While looking for
Manions, Kennedy's and Forrests in Huntley, I did come across a few McGrath
families there.
Joy
William Ernest Swain married Mary Margaret Davis. Would she be the daughter
of Michael Davis, nephew to Ann Margaret Davis who married James Kennedy?
Michael William Kennedy's first child born was a son named William Ernest
also. Just curious.

Thanks to Ken Armstrong for the following:
Hi to all;
I checked out the Huntley 1901 Census today, and I was surprised to find
that the Township of Huntley is actually listed under the Lanark (North)
County, Dist No. 80, anyway the attachment has the three McGrath families in
the 1901 Huntley Census, I also transcribed all of the Kennedy's from the
1901 Huntley Census, and if anyone wants it, once I get it into electronic
format, I will be glad to send it along.
Unfortunately only John and Teresa are listed as children with the family of
Michael McGrath and Mary Carroll.

Hi Guys
Today there was an obit for Michael Kennedy who died Oct. 16, 2002 age 62,
which puts him born circa 1940. He's the son of Lawrence and Annie Kennedy.
My records show Lawrence John Kennedy born July 23, 1903, married Theresa
"Annie" Ryan on June 21, 1932 in Corkery.
The time frames are very, very close as the names. The deceased Michael will
be buried in St. Michaels Cemetery in Corkery on Monday, so the likely hood
is that I have the right family is good.
Theresa "Annie" Ryan, known as Annie, was the daughter of James Ryan and
Anne Sullivan. She was born Nov. 14, 1902 and died May 19, 1986. Lawrence
died Jan. 11, 1990. Lawrence was the son of Lawrence Michael "Mick" Kennedy
and Jane McGahey. They were married Jan. 28, 1902. Births can only be
retreived from the Archives to 1903. Law. Michael Kennedy bought one of the
brick houses Jeremiah O'Brien built for his sons. (Ogilvie, p. 141)
Lawrence Michael "Mick" Kennedy was born June 2, 1866 to Hugh Kennedy and
his second wife (cousin of the first wife) Hanora O'Grady. And Hugh Kennedy
being born Sept. 9, 1827 to John Kennedy and Margaret Manion.
Thought you'd be interested.
Take care
Taylor

Hello:
My interest is in the name KENNEDY and where the Kennedy families lived in
Canada, most particularly in the Ottawa/Aylmer area. I have Kennedy
relations who married into the Connelly and Robillard families.
Maybe Taylor Kennedy has some knowledge about these families? Thank you.

Hi Joan
My name is Taylor Kennedy and I was born in Peggy's Cove, Halifax, however I
was the only one born out of province. The rest of my family is from Ottawa.
In Carleton there are Kennedy's who are Irish and Scottish, who are Roman
Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians and so on. I have dealt with mainly the
R.C,'s in Nepean, Huntley and parts of Ottawa who were all Irish.
If you can give me a small time frame, Religion, Orgin etc I could probably
tell you real quick whether I have information on them.
Take care
Taylor

THE OTTAWA PACKET ---- SATURDAY, APRIL 29, 1848
-- Obituary - "Kennedy; In this town, on the 22nd instant, Mr. James
Kennedy, Innkeeper, formerly of the Parish of Borrisokane, County Tipperary,
Ireland, aged 35 years."
Al and Ken:
The above James Kennedy, this one, is I believe, the younger brother of
William Kennedy. For two reasons, the first being - James Kennedy was the
godfather of William Kennedy and Isabella Watt's first born, Judy (Julia)
and Elizabeth Watt was godmother. Usually, a brother and sister as
godparents to the parents, and does not appear mentioned any more within the
family. [Was his death natural?] Secondly, Terryglass is within the
Borrisokane Parish, a collection of small parishes into one. It was shortly
after this that William had money to buy the farms in Nepean. --- These are
very interesting circumstances, well worth chewing for a while.

Welcome to Joe Dougherty who is another Kennedy relative!
Hello Al and Ken
Hope you are keeping well with all those OTTAWA SENATORS wins, but when they lose,
don't come crying to me.
Gentlemen, (thanks for giving us the benefit of the doubt ... Al) the following
email is from Joe Dougherty of Philadelphia. He has been researching his wife's
Kennedy connection, and we just happen to be a missing link for him. She is descended
from Lawrence Kennedy and Bridget Costello. I did inform him of you two characters
and I am copying Joe in case you would like to correspond. I have gone ahead and
sent Joe a Kennedy Gedcom file, which he will open in the morning after work.
I wanted to keep you guys a breast of events, as usual.
Take care for now
... Taylor

Here is Joe's e-mail to Taylor:
Hello Taylor,
Thanks for responding so quickly. I haven't confirmed that William's mother was
a Costello. I would have to order his death certificate from City Hall. Our
William died on October 29, 1918. I assume it was the Influenza Flu that swept
the nation that year but again I would have to get his death certificate.
William was married to Mary "Mame" Fleming b.1887, d. 11/11/23. They had two
children ... (more recent family info deleted ... Al)
As far as the census, Lawrence stated he was born in Canada along with his wife Bridget.
They also listed that their parents were born in Canada. In the 1910 Census, William
states he was born in Pennsylvania, USA, parents born in Canada. William is living
with his sister Anna who states she was born in Canada as well as her parents.
I should mention that the 1910 census indicated Anna (31yrs old) and William (26 yrs old)
living at 2619 Federal St., and in the 1920 Census, Lawrence (65 yrs old) and Bridget
(65 yrs old) are living at 2624 Federal St. along with their two children;
Mary (37 yrs old) and Lawrence Jr. (32 yrs old) - both born in Pa.
My only link to the Bridget Costello name is the fact that Anna Kennedy was born in
Canada, 1879 and her parents were Lawrence & Bridget Kennedy. When I searched the
LDS records along with Ancestry.com., the only Anna Kennedy born in 1879 was the
daughter of Lawrence Kennedy and Bridget Costello.
It is my belief that Lawrence Kennedy and Bridget Costello were both born in Canada
and had three children; John b. 1876, Isabella b. 1877, Annie b.1879. They
immigrated to Philadelphia abt. 1883 and had Mary, William b. 1884, and Lawrence Jr.
b. 1888. I would assume Margaret was born between 1884 & 1888 and most likely was
married in 1920.
It is interesting that you heard of a Philadelphia connection with Anna being a
nurse. Let me know what you think regarding the connection of this Phila. Kennedy
with your Kennedys.
I would like to mention that I have being doing my family tree for several years
and started to do the research for my wife's family but came up with more questions
concerning the Kennedy family so I just moved on to her other family members.
I was recently contacted by Elizabeth Garland, wife of Charles Garland Jr. She sent
me an Email which prompted me to begin my search again. I will forward her Email to
you. I appreciate your help and I hope you are the missing link to put the families
together but ultimately I believe I will have to get William's death certificate
to confirm the Costello connection. This is getting lengthy and my two fingers
need a break - talk to you later,
... Joe Dougherty
April 22, 2007:
Hi All,
Thought that I would send you a line regarding some more information
regarding the family tree..
A little background to start with.......
My great great great grandfather on my maternal side was William Kennedy
who was married to Isabella Watt. From there they had James Kennedy who
married Margaret Davis and they had a son named William Kennedy who married
Julia McMahon. They had moved to Vancouver and had a daughter named Elizabeth
and she had 3 children. Two sons Neil and Bruce and a daugher named Claire.

Hello Susan
It is nice to see you have returned, unknowingly, to the original Kennedy
farm site.
You are the first contact of the Vancouver area since 2000.
Do you have Family Tree Maker? or a program that will accept a "gedcom file".
I would love to have you information from James and Julia Kennedy. There is
a good write up in the Kennedy Story ( book about 120 pages) of James &
Margaret Davis. So much to say, I don't know where to begin. What would you
like? I can give you all what I have. While you are in the neighborhood of
Barrhaven, scoot down to St. Patrick's Church down the road and visit the
tombstone of your William Kennedy, who is listed on the stone, white one,
and Isabella is buried there according to the records but not listed on the
stone. I have the pictures on a CD I need to download and will send them off.
Take care for now
Taylor Kennedy
