Some Descendants of William WARNOCK and Bridget UNKNOWN
The information on this page was all compiled by John KENNY (see link below)
1 William Warnock
.. +Bridget Unknown
William married Bridgett when he was 40 and she was 16.
William had seen soldiering aboard a "Man of War" in the war against Napoleon
and saw service in the Battle of Trafalgar (1805). Many Irish were conscripted into
war service for this War. In recognition for his service he was given a grant of
lands in the colonies as payment. The grant was delivered at McGuires bridge
near the county town of Enniskilllen, Northern Ireland . The Warnocks probably
have the blood of the fighting McGuires in this pioneer family. The family came
to Canada in 1842. The Warnock's came to own many properties in Ottawa and
district. Besides the land s of where the Montfort hospital now stands and the Canadian Govenment department of Mortgage and Housing, Williams brother , James, the
Montreal flour merchant and Bytown baker/ biscuit maker, lent out money as
mortgages and in several cases he had to foreclose. The land where the experimental
farm now stands was owned by James as a result of a foreclosure. This land was
expropriated by the government in 1886.
